Melbourne's Top 10 Breakfasts

The time has come to choose. Time to stick my increasingly fat neck out and make a call on the best of the best. My personal top 10. So here goes. Melbourne's best breakfast venues are (not necessarily in strict order)...
  1. Mart 130
  2. Circa, The Prince
  3. Las Chicas
  4. European
  5. Pearl
  6. Bistrot d'Orsay
  7. Replete Providore
  8. Mario's
  9. Green Grocer
  10. Botanical
Of these, my personal favorites are Las Chicas, Replete and Mario's (of course). And now, thanks to the magic of push-button publishing, I can add Mart 130 to this list, almost as if it had always been here.

Interesting site....love the rating system. However, I wonder weather this really needs a few people to score each place and come up with some kind of average so that you avoid any personal biases. Just a thought! Perhaps you could invite visitors to use the same rating system or score card and rate the same places.....now that would be interesting. Anyway, an interesting and great blog.

I'm quite happy for others to adopt my rating system, and to share their scores with me (or not). If it looks like I need to adjust the posted score, I'll be quite happy to. I do try to dine with at least one other, and ideally a small group. But there's no question that this blog is primarily my view, often based on a single visit. Only time will fix that.

hey jamie, great idea for a blog, i think we on the same mission....
anyway, my 2c....

las chicas was really good after it first opened, but has slid badly since. orders take forever, poached eggs always overcooked, french toast used to be great, now it's horrible. really dissapointing.
(btw, lunch is still decent, though this is a breakfast post....)

went to mart recently and found the staff friendly but the food so-so and coffee was inconsistant (weak/strong). great location, have to get a table outside though.

for coffee & muffin breakfast, duck in to zappa in sth melbourne, next to the town hall. great coffee, friendly staff.

Bluedish in Highett is the one for me, with great food, friendly service and a really good atmosphere. You have people their who love their food and it shows.
Rating: high in highett!!!

I've been going to all your recommendations and I thought I'd share my thoughts on the recent experiences.

1. Bistro D'Orsay
Great European cafe style ambience but the eggs benedict and florentine we ordered were pretty average. No garnish and the hollandaise sauce was not tangy.

2. European
Great coffee, excellent menu and fantastic ambience haven't been disappointed yet!

3. Circa Prince
I think this one is too pretentious and expensive although the decor was good and the food was alright.

4. Botanical
Not enough of a choice on breaky items. Good selection of juices and the coffee is good. Great place to take clients but the web menu seems to have more dishes listed which are absent when you actually visit the place.

5. Cafe La. Great views. Planning to go there tomorrow. Will let you know how i go.

I've been going to the Mess Hall on Bourke St for about a year now an not once have I been dissappointed with the food there. So if your in the city and looking for somewhere to eat go there!!!

Also another favourite of mine is GALLEON on carlisle st, St Kilda, near acland st. Great staff, atmosphere, music and the food is always, always, great. Whenever I get to take someone from out of tow to breaky, ill chose GALLEON.

I hope everyone enjoys the above. I am a huge breaky person, well i literalyl only eat breaky for most meals! i know im obsessed!
